Abstract This report covers the general theory behind acceleration due to gravity. Using the tracking camera and the meter stick, the x and y position of the stickers are measured repeatedly as it moves over the air hockey table. These measurements are used to convert between pixel units to SI Units. Once the pixel units are converted to El units, students then nd the position, velocity, acceleration, gravitational acceleration, and uncertainties with those measurements. This exercise provides an idea of the relationship between pixels and Si units and gives insight into calculating gravitational acceleration with the tract-ring camera. Keywords: position, velocity, acceleration, gravitational acceleration, uncertainty 1. Introduction The goal in this lab is to measure the value of g the gravitational acceleration of earth. We first must note that the high liit air table is frictionless, this means that there is no additional force that goes in when calculating the gravitational acceleration. To convert form x and y positions in velocity we must derive in order to get the velocity in the x and y direction; additionally, we must derive the velocity hmction in order to get the acceleration in the x and y direction. In this lab an important concept is introduced to students called smoothing. Since there are many outliers with the data, we must smooth the values. Smoothing removes the noise from the data set and illustrates a trend or allowing important patterns stand out
