According to a study done at Stanford, the most important thing a manager can do is to develop self-awareness. Self-awareness means understanding yourself your personality, emotions, beliefs, and perceptions. Once you understand yourself, you must also learn how your unique characteristics affect other people. There are two primary ways to enhance your self-awareness. One is by letting other people tell you what they think of you. This feedback can make you aware of your blind spots those characteristics that are holding you back, but that you don't see as a problem. When you seek feedback, you are likely to improve both your job performance and your job satisfaction. A second way to enhance your self-awareness is to use self-assessment. This means thinking about your tendencies and even taking surveys to help you know what tendencies you have. For example, there is a survey in the textbook that will help you to measure your level of self-confidence. One area of self-confidence is self-efficacy, or your belief that you can accomplish tasks successfully. All of your characteristics will influence how you treat others and how you behave at work.
