You will find a county with a population that grew from 2018 to 2019. You can find county populations on the US Census Website. If for some reason you cannot download and open an Excel file you can see the data for Michigan counties in the attached document. You do not have to restrict yourself to Michigan, however. Sign up for your county in the "Project 1-County Claim" SignUpGenius so that no one else takes your county. (If you would like to use a county outside of Michigan, email me with subject: Math 131-Alternative County Selection and include the county in state in your request.) Each student must do a different county. If two papers have the same county, then I will grade the project from the person who selected the county on claim form and ask the other(s) to redo the project with a new county. What to do: 1. Create a spreadsheet file that shows what the population of the county would be each year if the population grew linearly from 2018 to 2038. Your spreadsheet should have two columns labeled Year and Population. The first column should have years from 2018 to 2038 listed. The second column should have the populations from 2018 and 2019 given by the US Census Bureau. The remaining cells should show populations from 2020 to 2038 if the population were to grow linearly at the same rate as it grew from 2018 to 2019. 2. Answer the following four questions. You may word process your answers or print neatly. The document you submit must be in PDF format, however. Most word processors allow you to save a document in PDF format. Printed answers can be scanned as a PDF using one of number of different apps, Directions to using one of them are included in the Week 1 Videos in HFC Online. In 2-3 sentences give the county and state you are using. Give the populations in 2018 and 2019. Tell how much the population grew from 2018 to 2019 Create an equation that models the table in your spreadsheet. Let y represent the population. Let x represent the number of years after 2018 (So, x = 3 would represent 2021, for instance). Give the answer in slope-intercept form. Write one or two sentences about how you found the model. Use your model to confirm the 2038 population in your spreadsheet table. Show your work. The US has an average of 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 people (American Hospital Association. 2020. Fast Facts On US. Hospitals, 20201 AHA. [online] [Accessed 9 August 2020]). Based on this and what your model predicts for the county's population in 2028, then how many hospital beds will the count need to have an average number? Explain how you found your answer. How many hospital beds will be needed in 2038? Explain. Both explanations should use complete sentences. Use mathematical notation when appropriate. 0.000011:50 DM You will find a county with a population that grew from 2018 to 2019. You can find county populations on the US Census Website.
