Afghan Data Set Part 2 ( data set is attached below)
The data for the remaining questions come from story by James A.
Piazza (2012) that was the source of the data (attached below)
However, now we are going to consider the following set of variables:
mortality : under 5 mortality (per 1000).
we are going to treat this variable as the response.
opium : average opium cultivation (hectares).
pop : population in thousands.
area : area of province (1000 km).
mountains : percentage of province that is mountainous.
literacy : literacy rate.
water : percentage of population with access to safe drinking water.
calories : percentage of population below median caloric intake level.
roads : percent of roads categorized as \all season."
pashtun Pashtun ethnic majority.
1 = yes 0 = no
troops average number of foreign troops (per year).
1. Fit an initial model that relates the response (mortality) to all of the remaining variables.
Use an Normal regression model (although the response is a rate because it involves large
counts the Normal model should work quite well).
2. Find the variance inflation factors and comment on whether or not multicollinearity is an
issue for this data
