After reviewing this chapter on ethical issues, I found that informed consent is going to be the most important form of communication for my study. According to Miles et al., (2018), the meaning of informed consent is the action allowing the participant to exercise their information to be given freely without bias. The challenging aspect of this is the mindset of the participant. In my study, hospitality is a reputable industry. Any bad publicity could tarnish a companys reputation. If a participant is not clear on the intentions of the study and the ethical standards that are represented in the study, the participant may feel obligated to answer questions in a safe manner. Therefore, the informed consent must have guidelines protecting the identity of the participant. However, the participant must feel not pressured to answer any question that may be deemed uncomfortable for fear of any possible retaliation. Compared to a recent journal article on my topic of the robotic frontline, a participant might feel reluctant to answer questions that may upset or offset the thought process of a new concept entering and possibly affect the participants duties (Lu et al., 2020). The background of the study is an important factor to advertise early in the selection process to ensure the participants are aware of the study and the design process of the output from the study should be communicated fully.
