After you have completed Activities 13.5, 14.4, 15.6 and 16.4, write your portrait of a child as a language user. You should discuss how your subject knowledge enables you to understand and analyse what a child says or does. This part of the assignment is based on your observations of a child as he or she develops as a reader, writer, speaker and listener. Activity 13.5 gives details of how you should carry out these observations. Ideally you will be observing a child in an educational setting If this is a child that you work with, make sure to also include some observations of the child as a language user as they interact with other adults and children, as well as with yourself If you cannot do observations yourself, you can use the module's video resources. These focus on two children - Daisy and Zach. You need to choose ONE focus child, whether it be Daisy, Zach or a child you are able to observe directly.
