All Sections It has been debated that a strong security and police presence at sporting events is needed. When an unruly episode occurs in the stands among fans, then a strong police presence is needed to send a message. On the other hand, some experts argue that surveillance technology, facility construction, and non-violent intervention measures should be used when fans become unruly. Alcohol sales, violent play on the field, and game hype are potential contributing factors. Some stadiums have goal posts that collapse with the push of a button to avoid fans tearing down goal posts. In European soccer games, hooligans have been a problem where spectators have been killed. In the U.S., fans have died in parking lots after games when fights break out. 1. Go to You Tube and look at the Malice in the Palace video of fan and player violence in the NBA. What crowd management and security measures could be effective at ODU football games? The Philadelphia Eagles (some years ago) even brought a judge to the stadium basement during football games to provide "instant justice".
