Q5(5%) A green roof is one of the sustainable building design methods which is covered with vegetation on the roof having additional R-value of roof and evaporation on vegetation surfaces. An architect wishes to compare the performance of the original design (left) and green roof addition (right) and asks your help. For the original design, we have Qshortwaveradiation,Qlongwave radiation, Qconvection, andQconduction through the roof. Note that the arrows are indicative of heat transfer directions. For green roof case, we have the same condition of the original case but with a vegetation layer for evaporation (ignore the conduction of this vegetation layer due to its very thin thickness) and a soil layer for conduction. Calculate the roof indoor surface temperature (T surf, in) for each case to evaluate the green roof design. Describe your results with respect to the impact of green roof addition.
