Although continuous variables often seem to have a stronger presence in research, categorical variables are important as well. An advantage that is often associated with continuous variables is that they allow for a greater variety of statistical analyses to be completed. However, there are many cases in which the variables of interest are not continuous, and it is not logical or appropriate to code them as such. Finding Examples For this discussion, begin by locating a published study in a peer-reviewed journal that involved at least one categorical variable.
