An angle section, with legs of unequal length has the dimensions shown in figure 1. At this cross-section there is a moment M = ‒26 kN m applied at the section centroid C and this is oriented parallel to the short leg of the cross-section, as shown. Given that the centroid of the section is at ‒z = 26.1 mm and y = 76.1 mm, and the principal second moments of area are Iu = 28.7×10–6 m4 and Iv = 3.08×10–6 m4 (the principal axes and their orientation are given in figure 1), determine:

(a) Orientation of the neutral axis for the cross-section, and show this orientation on a sketch.

(b) The stress at point A.
