An example where this method might be useful in a research setting is monitoring blood pressure. Specifically, the difference in blood pressure between two groups that follow a specific diet. In one group, participants could follow whats referred to as a "regular" diet with no restrictions, and the other group could follow a "simply healthy" diet which is 2g salt restriction. The Mann-Whitney U test would be best for this particular research setting given two independent groups. Additionally, blood pressures may not be normally distributed amongst participants, especially given smaller sample sizes or outliers. This particular test would still allow us or the researchers to identify if there is statistically significant data from their research. Both methods are incredibly useful, although their usefulness differs depending on what the research is about and what the authors are looking for
