An organisation has recently approved an internal project to investigate the purchase of a new GPS-based monitoring system for their onsite operations. The project will need to draw experts from the 'IT' (Resource 1), 'Manufacturing' (Resource 2) and 'Installation' (Resource 3) departments. The persons selected for the project will work under one of the Project Managers in the PMO. Each of these persons (Resources) can be employed full-time on the project if necessary, but cannot be supplemented by others from the functional departments except for a very short time (1 week maximum). Each activity below has been programmed by the project manager assuming that each activity needs each resource at the following proportion: IT (Resource 1) at 0.8 FTE or 4 days/week; ▪ Manufacture (Resource 2) at 0.5 FTE or 2.5 days/week; • Installation (Resource 3) at 0.4 FTE or 2 days/week. Given the following activities and their immediate predecessors (in the table below); a) Draw a resource usage calendar/chart and identify the resource constraints, given that each resource is assigned to each task at the proportions provided above; b) Draw a second usage calendar/chart in which almost all resource constraints have been eliminated through resource levelling. The overall duration of the project should remain at 9 weeks.
