Analytics is a powerful tool for solving problems. During WWII, aircraft were being shot down at an alarming rate. When the planes returned from battle, the locations of the bullet holes on all the planes were carefully recorded to produce a final visual map that indicated the regions of the plane most likely to be hit by enemy gunfire (see attached picture where the red circles represent the bullet holes). The solution that the military came up with to solve this problem was to place armor on the planes. But armor will make the plane heavier, and heavier planes are less maneuverable and use more fuel. Armoring the planes too much is a problem, but armoring the planes too little is also a problem. Somewhere in between there's an optimum. Where should the armor be placed and why
