Annotated Bibliography Instructions Description: This is the second in a series of assignments leading to your end-of-the semester, final project, the Argumentative/Research Essay (which will be 7-10 pages long). The goal of the Annotated Bibliography is to compile a list of sources that you plan to cite in your Research Argument Essay. Feel free to use the same sources included in your Prospective Synopsis Abstract (PSA) if your professor indicates that they are quality texts when she evaluates your PSA. Number of Sources Required: You need the following: 1. At least four sources from the Rereading America chapter you selected 2. Two scholarly articles (Use Jackson State University's library system to locate these.) 3. Two scholarly books (Again, use JSU's library system.) Feel free to add additional sources of your choice, as long as they are credible. Preparation: Before you begin working on your Annotated Bibliography, revisit your PSA. Review the \"Bibliography\" section. Decide which sources you would like to keep and which ones you wish to eliminate and replace. You might even decide to keep all of your sources or eliminate all of them and start fresh. Getting Started: Once you have decided which sources you will use, do the following: 1. Make sure you have the required number and types of sources. 2. Arrange them into an MLA-style annotated bibliography, following the instructions provided on this link. Keep in mind that MLA has specific guidelines on how to cite anthology sources, such as Rereading America. You will lose points if you don't follow all directions. Also, read the example Annotated Bibliography, which is posted to Canvas. 3. Include your claim (thesis) at the top of your bibliography under the title: \"Annotated Bibliography\". This can be the same idea you used in your Prospective Synopsis Abstract or a different idea if you have changed it. 4. For each source, provide a brief annotation with a four-to-six sentence, concise summary that includes the following: the author's main point, most important supporting details, and how you believe the source will help you develop your argumentative research essay. Follow the same structure illustrated in the example annotated bibliography. 5. Daisplay a formal tone. Do not use first or second person, except for the last sentence of each annotation when you explain how you believe the source will help you develop your argumentative research essay. In that area, you can use the first person. Also, avoid using contractions and any other informal language. 6. Proofread carefully for grammatical and mechanics errors. Make the necessary changes before you submit your Annotated Bibliography. 7. Type and submit your work in Microsoft Word \"doc\" or \"doex format, not Google Docs, which reformats documents once uploaded to Canvas. 8. Before submission, double check your Annotated Bibliography to make sure it meets all standards outlined on the rubric, page 2 of this document
