In the survey that was described in Exercise 16.27, students also were asked how many times they pray per week and what they felt was the importance of religion in their life (very important, fairly important, or not very). Why would it be preferable to compare the prayer frequency for the three religious importance groups using a nonparametric technique rather than analysis of variance? A sample of  = 729 college students is asked to rate how much they like various types of music on a scale of 1 to 6 on which 1 = don’t like at all and 6 = like a lot. The students also were asked whether their hometown was a big city, rural, a small town, or suburban. Results for a Kruskal- Wallis test comparing ratings of reggae music for the four types of hometown are given in the output for this exercise.
