1. One of the characteristics of information is its appropriateness to the task and the person performing the task. Give an example of information from within the organisation that would be appropriate for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a national supermarket chain, and information from within the organisation that would be inappropriate for the same person. Briefly explain why in both cases.

2. The value of information is subjective and depends on a number of factors. Explain, using an example, how an organisation could determine the value of its customer information database.

3. The information life cycle has three major components; Creation, Existence and Termination. Give a brief explanation of each of the components, and provide an example as to what happens in each component.

4. Provide an example of a management information system (MIS), and briefly explain how it

   differs from a transaction processing system (TPS).

5. Choose an organisation with which you are familiar and identify examples of the different information needed by the strategic, tactical and operational levels of the organisation.

6. This question refers to the following case study: Mr Cook, the IT Manager at Match Lighting, has prepared a strategy outlining the investment Match Lighting needs to make in IT over the next five years. The strategy includes annual budgets for hardware purchases, software licensing, a rolling programme of desktop upgrades, systems maintenance and new systems development. Mr Alvis, the Director of Match Lighting is shocked at the level of expense required for the strategy. Provide examples of two (2) ways in which IT could bring value to Match Lighting.

7. Explain the relationship between the organisational architecture and the information architecture. Your explanation should consider the different roles of the two architectures, how they relate to one another, and whether both architectures are needed in an organisation.

8. It is possible that an individuals right to privacy may be breached by government departments cross-checking information from different sources; for example, comparing taxation records with banking records. Discuss the circumstances and provide an example of when you think this might be appropriate or acceptable.
