COLLAPSE Hey Marija. Cutting in line is a really good example of violating a norm. I have not considered, until reading your post, that this is technically a norm and to be honest this is a major pet peeve of mine! Like you mentioned, norms maintain order and social cohesion. In a way, cutting in line communicates a level of disrespect to the people around you. With that being said, most of you post highlighted the benefitseutral aspects of social norms. I have often found myself considering that some norms are unfair on the basis that people with certain differences or disabilities may not abide by some norms because they physically cannot or struggle with social cues. Do you think that social norms have any disadvantages? Or that, perhaps, some social norms seem unnecessary or maybe even harmful? Reply Quote
