A student's status can be coded as a combination of three conditions, in this order:

Whether they are a 'F'reshman, 'S'ophomore, 'J'unior, or S'E'nior

Whether they are a 'R'esident, or 'C'ommuter

Whether they are 'F'ull-time or 'P'art-time

The quoted letter in each of the above is the corresponding code for that condition. So, for instance, a particular student's status could be 'FRF' (Freshman, Resident, Full-time), or 'ECP' (Senior, Commuter, Full-time).
