Managerial roles experience change and restructuring to align with the needs and technology of society. Connecting with customers, innovation, responsiveness, and speed are the present business foci requiring a new approach to management (Gherson & Gratton, 2022).
According to Surez-Amaya et al. (2024), management trends in higher education, my current population served, consist of a multifactorial perspective in which effective management and organizational outcomes depend. This perspective helps leaders understand that change in one area will affect other parts of the organization. Managers can be flexible and demonstrate different leadership styles tailored to specific needs or issues, such as gaining a consensus from workers on different levels and teams when making decisions.
Challenges may arise when there is rapid technological change, as seen during COVID-19 (Surez-Amaya et al., 2024). Managers had to discover and implement new strategies and solutions to technological gaps in real time to improve organizational outcomes and meet customers' evolving needs (Surez-Amaya et al., 2024). This trend provides an opportunity for sustainable, long-term solutions to be implemented, improving organizational outcomes.
Considering multiple factors allows managers to provide feedback to their workers, foster healthy working relationships, and build a foundation to shift the power, skills, and structure of their role as needed to be effective (Gherson & Gratton, 2022). Social workers in managerial roles can particularly benefit from this approach when balancing client needs, budgetary constraints, and collaborative programming efforts. Personally, I have applied this trend by taking a holistic view of organizational challenges, considering all relevant factors to develop effective, long-term solutions.
