Question:
Answer to this persons response in a short simple response when working with masonry block In warm weather the mason should wait this number of days before laying concrete block on the footing? Why and what are the benefits?
Response -
In warm weather the mason should wait 3-7 days before laying concrete block on the footing, by doing so it helps increase the strength of the concrete. According to the American Concrete Institute, concrete typically reaches 70 percent of it's strength within seven days, and after 28 days concrete is generally considered to be fully cured and at 100 percent strength. Hot weather can have an affect on the curing process also, because it tends to cause the moisture to evaporate to quickly. It will also make it harder to work with by causing the concrete to set to quickly, so one most understand the curing process so the concrete reaches it's maximum strength. Properly cured concrete improves strength, durability, water tightness, and wear resistance.
