Application of Bernoulli's Equation 1. A pipe AB carries water and tapers uniformly from a diameter 0.7
Question:
Application of Bernoulli's Equation
1. A pipe AB carries water and tapers uniformly from a diameter 0.7 m at A to 0.3 m at
B over a length of 4 m. Pressure gauges are installed at A and B. If the centreline is
horizontal and pressures recorded at A and B are 400 kPa and 370 kPa, respectively,
determine the flow through the pipe. Neglect all losses.
2. 2. A pipe 100 mm bore diameter carries oil of density 900 kg/m³ at a rate of 4 kg/s. The pipe reduces to 60 mm bore diameter and rises 120 m in altitude. The pressure at this
point is atmospheric (zero gauge). Assuming no frictional losses, determine:
i. The discharge
ii. The velocity at each section
iii. The pressure at the lower end.
