Some stores have headquarters in other countries while outsourcing their products from cheaper countries. Because Shein is an online retailer, it has some more leeway with shipping. When Shein was starting, all orders shipped directly from China. Now that business is booming for the clothing giant, Shein established several warehouses around the world.

It’s important to note that these domestic warehouses do not make the clothes you purchase. Shein produces all its clothes in cheaper, overseas factories to keep its costs at a minimum. While this allows you to buy clothes at dirt-cheap prices, it poses an ethical dilemma. The working standards of Shein seamstresses are controversial.The company pays workers significantly lower wages and offers fewer (or no) benefits compared to domestic workers. While it sounds duplicitous, this is not uncommon for clothing retailers at all.

Numerous famous companies experience criticism when someone uncovers connections with unethical production. It’s the price society pays to save a quick buck, but moral dilemmas aren’t the only problem associated with these “imported” items. Purchasing from Shein is a personal choice, and there are many factors to consider. While some have concerns over the Chinese company due to quality or ethical reasons, countless customers regularly flock back to the site.
