In the field, there is a $2-$m$-$thick layer of the same clay $($Figure P$2\mathrm{.}19$a$).$ Based on the assumption that a uniform surcharge of $92k\frac{N}{m^2}$ was to be applied instantancously. the total consolidation settlement was estimated to be $120mm.$ However, during construction, the loading was gradual; the resulting surcharge can be approximated as shown in Figure P$2\mathrm{.}19$b$.$ Estimate the settlement at $t=30$ and $t=100$ days after the beginning of construction.
