As stated by authors Anderson, et al. (2016) "workforce assignment problems frequently occur when production managers must make decisions involving staffing requirements for a given planning period". The biggest problem within my organization is just that, staffing. While there are not enough physical people willing to fill open positions throughout the hospitals and offices, being able to utilize staff in a more effective and efficient way, the organization may be able to retain it's current staffing while enticing new or former staff to return. There are various ways management could use a linear programming application to improve staffing such as establishing the number of staff available, number of staff which are cross trained, and how many are needed per level of care. By using this information, management is able to fill in holes where the staff member is most needed as opposed to having more staff in one area with less patients and staff in another area drowning from being understaffed
