Since these reports are what you rely on to know if the project is going as planned or if it has the potential to fall behind schedule, go over budget, or anything else that would cause you to take corrective actions, you know you need to do something to get things back on track. To start, you meet with Jennifer to address the shortness of her report, "today I got stuff done". Jennifer informs you that she didn't know what to write because she was really pressed for time and so much was gone over and done the day before that it was just going to be too much time to report everything.
