Discussion 1 : the term management means to me is leading people to a desired goal by using their strengths and constantly adapting to new challenges that one might face while managing. it means that you have responsibility for success of the company and the duty to treat those around you with respect and fairness. it also means to you have to be extremely disciplined. the role that I think is most important role for managing is the role of planning because in my opinion it is the foundation for every other role in managing with out a good plan its hard to give direction and hard to execute what you set out to do. when it comes to competitive differentiation i think management goes hand in hand, because management at is core is responsible for how a company or organization is being run and to make sure that the companies product or service is different from the rest it takes skills of management like foresight, decision making, and strategic thinking. and above all else leadership skills.
Discussion 2
I believe Middle and First-Line managers are the most important because they are the part of management that works closest with the employees and customers. Team Leads are also in this position but I believe their roles are not as profound and complex as the other two. Middle and First-Line have roles that cover aspects like allocating resources, implementing changes, and managing employees.
Management contributes to competitive differentiation based on different the different levels of management. Team Leaders likely would not contribute as highly to this task as a Middle Manager would. However, it is important to note that the two must work together to help employees meet goals and needs of the company. A Middle Manger would likely set the goals that Top Management expects or requests but it is First-Line and Team Leaders that get the entry-level employees to accomplish these goals.
