Assessment 2 Leaders are Born, not made. (25% of Total Semester marks) Description and Purpose Topics to be covered: Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to critically evaluate important issues in understanding successful leadership attributes and how these may be applied. Assessment Question: - It is often stated that "Leaders are Born, not made!!" Discuss the problems and benefits of this statement using the following Foundations. Kolb's Four (4) Stage Learning Theory, Personality Traits and Types and The Triarchic Theory of Intelligence (Students will have to research the theories and teachings of the Foundations below) Assessment Length 1,500 words +/- 10% (excluding References and Bibliography) (That means a minimum of 1,350 words and a maximum of 1,650) Choose your words well. Why so few words for a large topic? Because as a leader, the fewer words you use to properly explain and communicate well with, the better people will understand and the lesser the confusion of their understanding will be. So, you may also treat this as part of that exercise and training in preparing you for future leadership. Page 8 Criteria to grade quality Marks will be allocated as follows: • 5% on a clearly constructed Executive Summary of no more than 250 words • 5% on a clearly presented Introduction • 50% on the inclusion of the following elements: o Clear understanding of the statement including itsimplications on the practice of Leadership o How the Statement informs the challenges of Leadership o Appropriate critiquing of the Statement which clearly discusses your views and how your views are supportedby prevailing literature • 10% on a well-structured and convincing Conclusion • 20% on the inclusion of good quality and relevant references which reflect appropriate depth of research and have been wellapplied and used correctly in terms of in-text application. It is suggested that students use a minimum of 10 references and amaximum of 15 references, and • 10% on the appropriateness of the writing style which should be clear, well presented, well structured, grammatically correct, no spelling errors and correct assessment length (+/- 10% tolerance in word count) • Please observe the word count. Failure to observe the 1,500 word count will result in an automatic 15% penalty. • No quotes from other Authors, text books and secondary sources will be allowed. My personal preference is I want to read your words and not an essay overloaded with quotes from other people, authors or any other source. To these points, please do not use quotes. • A 10% mark reduction will be recorded for essays that contain too many quotes.
