While working in a business setting, you will likely be asked to format and/or write a report. A report is a concise document written for a particular purpose and audience. It should be designed to lead people through the information in a structured way. Many reports today are delivered digitally in e-mail messages, PDF (portable document format) files, or another format.
In this assessment, you will demonstrate your ability to differentiate between a business and academic report as well as show the correct format design. You will also compare and contrast options for converting documents.
Assessment Instructions:
This assessment has three parts. Be sure to complete each task completely based on the directions below. Refer to the scoring guide to ensure you have met all criteria.
Part 1: Report Comparison
In a brief summary (two to three paragraphs), identify the components of a report and compare and contrast academic and business reports. Describe the style you chose, identify various components included in the chosen report, and explain how it is different from the other report style. This summary should be submitted as a separate Word document from the remaining portions of this assessment.
Part 2: Prepare Report
Prepare a report for a supportive relative or friend that outlines your educational progress. You will want to:
- Describe your progress.
- Summarize the work youve done so far.
- Describe what you are currently working on.
- Outline your plans to accomplish your goal.
Be sure that your report follows the following formatting expectations:
- Format your report using a business or academic style.
- Use headings to organize information.
- Apply a theme and style.
- Use a header or footer, insert page numbers, and a page break.
- Include a three-column table that lists courses completed, the instructors name, and the number of credits. In a footnote, explain the differences between an open, boxed, or ruled table.
Submit a Word document version and a converted version of your report to the submission box.
Part 3: Conversion
In a separate Word document, compare and contrast file conversion options. What is the purpose of converting a document? Why should we consider accessibility? Select an appropriate conversion format for this report.
