• Skill to establish OHS, welfare and risk management procedures for first aid facilities and plant and equipment.
• Skill to establish OHS, welfare and risk management procedures for hazard management, safe handling of material.
• Skills to review and addressing the procedures of precautionary measures.
• Skill to establish and manage construction safety procedures, induction procedures safety reporting process in accordance with organisational and legislative requirements.
• Reading skills to collect, review, interpret/understand and analyse/review text-based business information from a range/number of sources.
• Writing skills to prepare an OHS / risk management plan.

Project task:

Task: Prepare a draft project OHS and risk management plan

Assume that you are working as the Safety Officer for a building construction company "Quick-form Housing", a large business that builds houses and apartments in Western Australia. Your company has been awarded a medium rise construction contract. The contract requires Quick-form Housing to build new residential apartment complex in Perth. You have been given the responsibility by the project manager to prepare and establish the project OHS and risk management plan for this project. The value of construction work is $ 2.5 million.

In the draft project safety and OHS risk management plan, the following points must be included:

PJ 2.1. Onsite requirements for first aid facilities as per OHS,welfare and risk managementlegislation applicable to Western Australia (WA).

PJ 2.2. Plant and equipment usage policy and practices that require certified operators.

PJ 2.3. Hazard management procedures for the following classifications of hazards:

• Working at height
• Heavy lifting operations
• Fire safety
• Working with hand/power tools.

PJ 2.4. Precautionary measures for each classification of each hazard.

PJ 2.5. Safe material handling procedures.

PJ 2.6. Responsibilities for safe handling of materials.

• Employer's responsibilities.
• Employee's responsibilities.

PJ 2.7. Construction safety procedures in accordance with:

• Requirements for carrying out construction work as specified in Work Safe Australia.
• OHS, welfare and risk management requirements

PJ 2.8. Company's responsibility in management of construction safety procedure.

PJ 2.9. Safety induction procedures for the following information:

• Hazards and risks specific to the workplace for overhead power lines near the workplace.
• Control measures for those risks
• Site specific rules that must be complied with
• Report incidents and hazards.
• Incident, emergency and evacuation procedures

PJ 2.10. Safety reporting processes and documentation based on the legislative requirements.
