• Analyze a quality issue they select from "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System"
• Explore level of improvement made since "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System" was published
• Identify and describe the current or on-going efforts underway to continue to address the issues they have selected

Assignment #1-1 Purpose:

This assignment will assist students in connecting specific issues (or errors) to the development of the seminal report "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System," and it will give them the opportunity to assess the progress made in the healthcare industry in reducing the risk of harm that this issue poses to patients.

Assignment #1-1 Description:

Read the report brief of "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System" from the Institute of Medicine, Nov. 1999. Select one of the 14 errors or issues identified by the authors, conduct secondary research to determine how much progress has been made since 1999 in addressing this issue. Identify and describe the current or on-going efforts underway to continue to address the issue you have selected. Write and develop a PowerPoint presentation describing your findings.

• Your PowerPoint Presentation should be at least three (3) slides of content.
• Use APA formatting guidelines for presentations.
• Use voice-over PowerPoint or Kaltura. You can choose to present during the class or enrichment session session-which would not require a voiced-over presentation.
• A rubric will be used to assess your submission.
