Assignment 2: Applying Theoretical Perspectives
Drop Box Complete the following assignment and submit your work to the dropbox.
Before you begin this assignment, confer with your teacher as to the length of your case study and the required format and make use of the following resources to assist you in the research process and writing strategies.
To complete your case study, you will want to do the following:
Choose your situation. A selection of topics can be found here.
Gather as much general background information as possible about the situation. Your reader needs to have a clear understanding of the situation for which a solution is sought.
Find two articles, news reports, discussions, etc., on the situation from two different theoretical perspectives. For example, feminist theory and conflict theory), or find research resources where you can apply the two chosen theoretical lenses you wish to use. Provide your reader with a brief synopsis of each research source.
Glean an understanding of the situation as presented from your researched sources, e.g.,How is the situation presented?,How does the theoretical perspective affect the understanding of the situation?. Include your observations in your comparison of the two resources.
Analyze all of the elements surrounding the situation from the two chosen perspectives. E.g.,Why is this a situation?,Who are the parties involved?,Who benefits from a resolution of this situation?. Include your observations in your comparison of the two resources.
Determine the final solution that was implemented (if applicable), or could be implemented based on the chosen perspectives, and explain in your conclusion the reasoning behind how this solution was derived based on your researched resources.

For your case study you will need to make judgments about the validity and accuracy of the ideas and information in the resources you acquired. You will need to ask questions about the writer(s) intent, the logic of the writer's argument, and how their theoretical perspective may have an effect on their perception of the issue. Use the following template, Making Judgements to assist you in deconstructing the evidence and framework of your resources. An example of how to use the template can be found here.
While a detailed outline is provided above on the basic process of writing a Case Study, the following Information Report template may be of some use to assist you in organizing your writing. An example of how to use the template can be found here.
