Assignment 3: Spelling Bee Scoring Control Panel

The Scenario:

You are a part of the IT team for a local IT consulting firm. The local government of the area in which you are based out of has secured the final round of a nationwide spelling bee championship. Because spelling bee championships are extremely popular in this location it could mean an economic windfall for the surrounding community. The only drawback is that the locale where the event is being held must provide the software that will track the scoring for the spelling bee for two contestants in each round.

The Request:

You need to create an application that utilizes a graphical user interface.

Your assignment:

Build a graphical user application to track spelling bee scoring for the competition. Document your process along the way. The documentation should provide a record of how your application was designed and built to enable someone to maintain or expand it in the future. You will turn in a completed spelling bee scoring application and your completed documentation.

The requirements for the application are:

• The application will have a control panel with the following controls:
  • A button to start a new round, which will prompt for the names of both contestants and prepare the app for a new round
  • A button to increment each contestant's score
• The increment buttons should be disabled until both contestants' names are entered
• The control panel will launch two windows, one for Contestant 1 and Contestant 2
• Each window will print a welcome message at the top after the contestant's name is entered
• Each window will have a large score in the middle
• When a contestant's score reaches 10, the contestant wins that round. The message at the top of the contestant's window will say that he/she has won the round and the message in the other contestant's window that he/she has lost the round.
