In today's healthcare system, more and more healthcare organizations are advancing their technologies and moving away from best of breed legacy applications. As healthcare organizations implement electronic health records EHRs it is important to consider when purchasing or creating specialized functional applications, as well as which standards to incorporate to ensure the exchange and utilization of the information captured.
In this unique casestudy, assume your group is the ITIS department within a cancer hospital and you have currently implemented the EPIC EHR within your outpatient departments. However, over the course of years, it has been brought to the attention of your ITIS department that a specialized cancer management application is required.
At this time, the application is in the midst of request for proposal planning RFP and your team has been asked to provide the rational and reasoning for asking vendors to adhere to particular standards
Your task is to create a business plan as outlined below in the justification of selecting the particular standards that would be included as part of the RFP in order to allow data to be shared within the hospital and other Cancer Hospitals within Ontario.
Some assumptions:
EPIC utilizes SNOMEDCT and a mix of other common terminology and HL as its core standards
Other Cancer Hospitals are currently utilizing some version of HLv as its core messaging standard

Working within your assigned teams, create a business plan in the justification of the proposed standard to be included in the request for proposal in an application specialized in cancer management
In the business plan, you should include at least the following sections outlined in additional deal in the Structure Section:

Approach Methodology: What approach frameworks was used in coming up with the proposed standards and how did you come to this conclusion.

Rational for Recommendation: What are the rationales for the agreed upon recommended standards
Benefits Risks: Identify the benefits and risks associated to your choice of standards. Identify any implications this may also have.
