Hints:
Create a simple excel sheet or CSV file with these columns for the exercise.
Steps:
1. Load Data into Tableau
Open Tableau.
Connect to your dataset by selecting Connect>Microsoft Excel or Text File(if you saved your data as a CSV).
Import the dataset into Tableau.
2. Create a Bar Chart:
Drag the Category field to the Rows shelf.
Drag Sales to the Columns shelf.
Choose the Bar chart type from the Show Me panel.
Customize the bar chart by adding labels to show the exact sales numbers.
Take a Screenshot of the chart.
Question: What insights can you draw about which category has the highest sales?
3. Create a Pie Chart:
In the Tableau worksheet, go to the Marks card and select the Pie chart type from the dropdown menu.
Drag Category to the Color shelf under the Marks card. This will color the different pie slices based on the category.
Drag Sales to the Size shelf under the Marks card. This controls the size of each slice of the pie according to the sales value.
To display the exact sales values, drag Sales again to the Label shelf under the Marks card.
Take a Screenshot of the chart.
Question: Which category contributes to most to overall sales? Is this easier to see compared to the bar chart?
4. Create a Histogram:
Drag Sales to the Columns shelf.
Change the visualization type to Histogram from the Show Me panel.
Adjust the bin size if needed.
Take a Screenshot of the chart.
Question: Describe the distribution of sales. Is it skewed to the left, skewed to the right, or symmetric? Are there any outliers?
5. Create a Scatter Plot:
Drag Sales to the Columns shelf.
Drag Quantity to the Rows shelf.
Use Category as a Color to differentiate the points.
Take a Screenshot of the chart.
Question: Is there a relationship between Sales and Quantity? Does it look like a positive, negative, or no correlation?
