Exercise: Deploying and Configuring FRSM

NOTE: Virtual machines required to complete this Assignment: EDM$-$DC$1$

The main tasks for this exercise are as follows:

Install FSRM role service.

Create a Quota Template

Create a Quota

Task $1$: Install FSRM role service

$1.$ Sign in to EDM$-$DC$1$ as Progreso$\backslash$Administrator with password Pa$55$w$.$rd

$2.$ Open Server Manager. Click on Manage and Add Roles and Features

$3.$ On the Select the installation type page, accept the default and click Next.

$4.$ On the Select destination server page, accept the default with EDM$-$DC$1$ selected, and click Next

$5.$ On the Select Server roles page, in the Roles list, expand File and Storage Services, and expand File and iSCSI services then select the File Server Resource Manager option.

$6.$ In the Add Role and Features Wizard, accept to install the features and management tools, lick Add features, then click Next.

$7.$ On the Select features page, click Next.

$8.$ On the Confirm installation selections page, click Install.

$9.$ When the installation is complete, click close.

Task $2$: Create Quota Template

$1.$ In Server Manager $($on EDM$-$DC$1),$ click on Tools and select File Server Resource Manager

$2.$ In the File Server Resource Manager console, expand Quota Management, and then click Quota Templates

$3.$ Right$-$click Quota Templates, and then click Create Quota Template.

$4.$ In the Create Quota Template dialog box, in the Template name field, type $100$ MB Limit Log to Event Viewer.

$5.$ Under Notification thresholds, click Add

$6.$ In the Add Threshold dialog box, click the Event log tab.

$7.$ On the Event log tab, select the Send warning to event log check box, and then click OK$.$

$8.$ In the Create Quota Template dialog box, click Add.

$9.$ In the Add Threshold dialog box, in the Generate notification when usage reaches $(\%)$ field, type $100.$

$10.$ Click the Event Log tab, select the Send warning to event log check box, and then click OK twice.

Task $3$: Create a Quota

$1.$ In the File Server Resource Manager $($EDM$-$DC$1)$ console, click Quotas.

$2.$ Right$-$click Quotas, and then click Create Quota.

$3.$ On the Create Quota dialog box, in the Quota path field, type E:$\backslash$Labfiles$\backslash$Lesson$1\backslash$Users$.$

Note: If you do not have an E: drive, use C: or any other NTFS drives available. Ensure the folders are created.

The Quota path is the location where you want to apply the Quota.

$4.$ Click Auto apply template and create quotas on existing and new subfolders.

$5.$ In the Derive properties from this quota template $($recommended$)$ list, click $100$MB Limit Log to Event Viewer, and then click Create.

$6.$ In the details pane, verify that the E:$\backslash$Labfiles$\backslash$Lesson$1\backslash$Users$\backslash *$ path has been configured with its own quota entry. You may have to refresh the Quotas folder to view the changes.

$7.$ From the taskbar, open File Explorer.

$8.$ In the File Explorer window, expand drive E$,$ expand Labfiles, expand Lesson$1,$ and then click Users.

$9.$ In the Users folder, create a new folder named Max.

$10.$ In File Server Resource Manager, on the Action menu, click Refresh.

$11.$ In the details pane, notice that the newly created folder now displays in the list.
