Purpose of this assignment

This assignment seeks to assess trainees ability to focus on researching job related market information and developing their own careers. This requires detailed knowledge and understanding of the job and career opportunities available in their chosen field.

Moreover, the assessment will help the trainees to develop a range of practical skills that will underpin the self-assessment requirements of their career plan and to reflect on the results of their skills audit and identify any skills gaps.

Scenario/background

Personal career development planning is an important tool for career growth. It helps the individual to focus on what they are able to do and what they need to do or learn in order to be successful in a job or career. It is essential to cope with the modern workplace that requires a flexible and adaptable labour force. The purpose of this assignment is to enable you to develop a career plan for yourself in the years ahead. It assists you to explore your capabilities and figure out your skill gaps so that you can develop yourself to achieve your career goals.

Write a report about your career path in the coming 5 years. Your report should include answers to the following tasks.

Task 1 (This task provides evidence against CILO 1)

In order to be successful in life, we need to have a clear plan for our future career goals and set proper plans to achieve those goals. In what stage of your career do you see yourself in the year 2026? You are required to collect information related to your chosen career from different sources by completing the following sub-tasks:

1. Provide a brief introduction about your desired career path.
2. Describe three information sources for planning your future career
3. Discuss two limitations or problems in accessing each of the identified sources in 1b
4. Identify three information types collected from each source. State three benefits of each information type to support your desired career plans.

5. Present your answer for task 1 in class

• A written report of 3-4pages covering the required tasks with proper referencing. (See the requirements in page 3 for the specifications of the report),

Task 2 (This task provides evidence against CILO 2

A career plan cannot be successfully achieved unless we ensure proper development of our knowledge and skills to match the requirements of the selected professional path. In order to support your own growth, complete the following tasks:

1. Conduct a self-assessment by analysing your SWOT factors in relation to the career path chosen in task1.

2. Based on your above findings in 2a, identify your skills and knowledge gap against your desired career by completing the below table.

3. Based on the gaps you have identified in 2a and b, develop a personal career development plan to manage these gaps. Your plan should include the following points:

• What do you need to develop in yourself? (in order to achieve your career goal identified in task1, you should set at least 2 short-term targets and 2 medium-term targets and make sure that your targets are SMART). (4 marks)

• Explain the methods of development that you will undertake to achieve each target and indicate the completion date for each method. (6 marks)

4. Present at least three problems and difficulties that you expect to face in your career planning and propose solutions for each one. (6 marks)
