Assignment Brief:

Read the case: Sustainability Case Competition: From Idea to Project (Appendix 1).

Assuming that you are Lisa Brown and based on your own sound assumptions, develop the proposed project, conduct an analysis, and prepare recommendations as to whether it is feasible to meet a certain deadline.

After reading the case study carefully, ensure that the six tasks (below) are addressed with sufficient motivation on suitable and sound assumptions on issues of Why? and How? to help Lisa Brown when she meets Wilson during the following week to know whether it would be feasible to turn the idea of the case competition into a real project.

Credit will be given for a clear demonstration of a good understanding of project management fundamentals and project management best practices. Unsupported arguments should be avoided.

Perform the following tasks:

(a) Transform a mind map into an initial work breakdown structure (WBS) (20%)

(b) Estimate durations for completing activities (20%)

(c) Identify predecessors for activities (15%)

(d) Draw an activity-on-node network (AON) (Precedence network) (25%)

(e) Based on your own assumptions, iteratively refine a WBS and AON to become manageable by calculating the earliest start/earliest finish, latest start/latest finish, and total float & free float (total slack & free slack) for each activity in a project (15%)

(f) Identify the project critical path or paths of a project (05%)
