Assignment for Module 2:
The one-mile walk test for cardiorespiratory endurance
Directions:
After you have completed the Health Risk Evaluation (the Modified PAR-Q) and determined that you have no risk factors that would keep you from performing this test, you may continue.
The best place to perform this test is on a measured track. Most outdoor tracks are 400 meters, or four laps per mile. If you don't have access to a track, you can do the test on any flat measured course without vehicular traffic that would force you to stop or put you at risk of injury.
Before doing the test, do 5-10 minutes of warm-up including stretching or walking. When you start the test, start your watch. It is important that you perform the walk as fast as possible without running (that is when both feet are off the ground at the same time), but it is important that you do not cause undue fatigue. If that happens, slow your pace. If you feel faint, nauseated, or notice unusual pain in your upper body, stop and notify the instructor.
When you complete the walk, record your finish time and fitness category from table 3.4 on page 81.
