Before you begin this assignment, take a minute to review the materials in this week's "Resources" folder. Using "TEMPLATE: Narrative Essay Topic Pitch," create your own document by thoroughly answering the questions below in separate paragraphs.PLEASE NOTE: You shouldNOT submit an entire narrative to this assignment! You only need to decide what you will write about and propose that topic here; the organization and drafting of this essay will happen over the next couple of weeks.

• Start by answering the essay's prompt: What specific event from your life helped you learn something new about yourself, someone else, or the world around you?
• What is significant about the event/experience that you've chosen to write about? In other words, why might this particular event be considered important to you or others?
• Who might relate to this event/experience, and why? In other words, who do you imagine the "perfect" audience might be for this particular narrative?
• Come up with at least one question to ask me about this assignment. What are you curious about? What are you confused about?

• ASSIGNMENT: Narrative First Draft Outline

Instructions

This week, you will submit the outlining work that you have done in preparation for writing next week's 500- to 600-word narrative first draft. Please keep these two things in mind: (1)this is NOT the actual first draft but an outline of that draft and (2) the final revision at the end of Week 5 will be expanded from 500-600 words to 750-1000, so not everything from this outline has to "fit" when you begin drafting next week.Refer to"TEMPLATE: Narrative Organization Outline" in the "Resources" folder to create your own; replace the questions on the template with your brainstorming/statements.

I encourage you to get as detailed as you can where you can in this outline. For instance, instead of just saying that your father is someone you'd like to write about in a particular moment, brainstorm some description: What exactly does he look like in the moment that you're writing about? How exactly does he act in that moment? etc.

Though the first draft does not need to be fully polished,try your best to make sure that it has been cleaned up before submitting.
