Assignment Process: Part One (1)

Open a word document on your computer, and set a timer for 15 minutes.

Free write for 15 minutes about an idea you are interested in. This can be anything; the important point is to let your ideas flow, and keep writing for 15 minutes.

Save the document, even if its messy, has spelling mistakes, or typographical errors.

Take a break for 10 minutes.

Go back to your original free writing idea. Read it.

Set your timer for 15 minutes.

Refine your original idea into a research topic that can be expressed into one or two paragraphs. Write these paragraphs out under the original idea.

Take a break for 10 minutes.

Create a question out of the topic you have refined.

Set your timer for 10 minutes, and condense your research question into three (3) keywords.

Go the UNE Library home page search. This is the link: https://www.une.edu.au/library

Enter your key words into the library search.

Find one peer-reviewed journal article that relates to your keyword search.

Download the journal article as a PDF and save it.

Read the journal article.

On the same word document, answer these three (3) questions:

All communication has a purpose. What was the purpose of the article?

What are three (3) main ideas examined in your chosen article?

How content is communicated can be a strength or a weakness. Identify the main strengths and weaknesses of how your chosen article communicates its content.

Answer the two (2) following questions on the same word document you have used throughout this assignment.

Did the free writing exercise boost your writing confidence?

What did you learn by using the UNE Library search to find information, compared to using a search engine like Google? For example, were you more confident about the veracity of the information you found on the UNE Library search engine compared to information found via Google?
