Assignment. This assignment includes two parts, an Essay and a Visual. Essay: I Choose a topic of interest related to government, Mr. Trout has a list of topics to include the death penalty, immigration, abortion, three strikes law, same-sex marriage, school vouchers, physician assisted suicide, U.S. and sole superpower, universal health care, social security, national tax and lowering the drinking age. 2. Research your topic and create a reference list of all websites and sources you use to complete the project. You must use a least three (3) different sources of information. Note: Balancepolitics.org and procon.org idebate.org are excellent sites! 3. Background of the issue: Define the issue. Explain what the topic is about and provide any background statistics (numbers, percentages), court cases, laws, etc. Explain the legal ramifications as well as moral/ethical issues. 4 . The pro's and con's of the arguments: Create a list of arguments that are both pro (in favor of) and con ( against) of your chosen topic. These are not one sentence statements , but paragraphs. Please use facts and statistics as much as possible. 5. Decide how you feel personally about the issue: do you agree with the pro or con statements? Why? Give specific reasons for why you support a particular side. Use facts to support your decision. Poster/ PowerPoint. 6. Create a poster that includes the following: The actual question ( Topic) The background of the issue (#3 above) . The pro and the cons of the arguments (#4) A summary paragraph of your opinion on the subject (# 5 ) A visual A List of references ( you need at least three ). (# 2 ) You should have at least ( 5) strong arguments on both sides ( for an A ) You should have at least (4) strong arguments on both sides ( for a B ) You should have at least (3) strong arguments on both sides ( for a C )
