Management thought is regarded as an evolutionary concept. It has developed along with it and in line with social, cultural, economic and scientific institutions. The modern management theory believes that employees work for numerous reasons, including achieving satisfaction, happiness and desired lifestyles.
Hence, throughout the period of evolution, we have learnt the various roles, functions and strategies implemented by management for proper utilization of workers to achieve high levels of productivity. Research has shown that highly productive companies have effective leadership which raises productivity of its workforce. Therefore, contemporary organizations now invest in Leadership Training with the goals of improved productivity and increased levels of employee engagement. Though other researchers have argued that, leadership has little or no effect on productivity of workers and emphasize on the need to effectively motivate workers through work benefits or incentives.
TASK
You are required to Identify an organization of your choice and design two questionnaires (1 for managers/supervisors/heads of departments and the other subordinates /the supervised) to answer the following questions:
1. What are the leadership styles adopted by manager/supervisors in the organization you identified and why have they chosen that leadership style?
2. How has the leadership styles affected the workers productivity?
3. What were your observations? How effective are the leadership styles in that organization?
4. What are your recommendations?
