Question: Assumptions: 1 . There will be two specialized crews concurrently available for Excavation andFormwork placement activities ( e . g . , Crew B 1

Assumptions:1. There will be two specialized crews concurrently available for "Excavation" and"Formwork placement" activities (e.g., Crew B1: responsible for activity B1, Crew B2: responsible for activity B2, etc.); however, for "Site leveling", "Reinforcement installation" and "Casting concrete" activities, there will only be a single specialized crew available (e.g.,Crew C: responsible for both activities Cl and C2).2. An 8-hour working schedule is considered.3. Quantities and as a result the durations for the identical activities will be the same for both the houses.4. In earth works activities, the compacted volume of soil will remain the same as its bank volume.5. For the "Site leveling" activities, only the overall additional (-or- required) quantity of soil that needs to be removed from (-or- brought to) the construction site must be used for estimation of the duration.Requirements:You are asked to perform the following operations:a. Define and tabulate the logical relationships (i.e., list of predecessors) among the activities.b. Construct the Activity-on-Arrow (AOA) network for the whole project, comprising construction of 2 houses.c. Calculate Early Event Times (EET), Late Event Times (LET), and Total Project Time (TPT), i.e., fill-in the AOA network developed in "Part b".d. Determine Late Start Time (LST) of only "Formwork placement" activity of the first house.e. Determine by how many days can "Casting concrete" activity of the first house be delayed without affecting the Early Start Time (EST) of any of its succeeding activities.f. Determine the total cost of the project by assuming an indirect cost (IC) of $500/day.
Goal:
The purpose of this assignment is to develop a deeper understanding of estimating quantities for a construction project, to practice network analysis, also to present calculations in the form of reports.
Description:
A small project comprises the construction of two identical houses on a single parcel. Project includes a site leveling activity and each house consists of excavation, reinforcement installation, formwork placement, and casting concrete activities. The activities and the associated direct cost (DC) of each activity are given in the following table.
\table[[,Activity,Description,Cost ($)],[,A,Site leveling,8,500],[House 1,B1,Excavation,2,000],[C1,Reinforcement installation,6,000],[D1,Formwork placement,5,500],[E1,Casting concrete,6,000],[House 2,B2,Excavation,2,000],[C2,Reinforcement installation,6,000],[D2,Formwork placement,5,500],[E2,Casting concrete,6,000]]
The quantity of earth works for "Site leveling" activity needs to be estimated with respect to the grid view shown in Fig. 1 and by using the "Grid Method". Fig. 1 displays a 15m grid survey of levels taken on the construction site which is required to be brought to a level of 57m. Quantity of earth works for "Excavation" activity should be determined by using the dimensions of the trench shown in Fig. 2 with a width and a depth of 1.50m and 2.00m, respectively. Quantities for "Reinforcement installation", "Formwork placement", and "Casting concrete" activities are already estimated as 420 tons, 850m2, and 1,650m3, respectively. The crew assigned for "Site leveling" activity is formed of 2 Trucks and 3 Graders which can work with an output rate of 69
m3hr. Productivity for "Excavation" activity is estimated to be 4 man-hours ?m3 and a crew formed of 8 Labors and 2 General Foremen is assigned for this activity. Crew assigned for "Reinforcement installation" activity is formed of 2 Steel Workers and 2 Labors which can work with an output rate of 21 ton/day. Productivity for "Formwork placement" activity is estimated to be 0.64 manhours ?m2 and a crew formed of 3 Carpenters and 1 General Foreman is assigned for this activity. Productivity for "Casting concrete" activity is estimated to be 0.16 man-hours ?m3 and a crew formed of 3 Concrete Workers is assigned for performing it.
