Question:
Major depression is one of the most commonly occurring clinical problems that can affect up to 20 % of people at some time in their lives. There are many reasons that depression prevention and treatment should be considered a priority health intervention. Positive psychology interventions (PPI) are a promising approach to increasing well-being and satisfaction with life. The current study explores whether PPI is effective in reducing depressive symptoms in a clinically depressed sample. The sample included 132 adult women who had a DSM-V-R diagnosis of major depression. The primary outcome measures were severity of depressive symptoms, measured using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Higher scores are associated with higher depressive symptoms. All participants completed the BDI-II before and after the positive psychology intervention which last for 10 weeks. It is hypothesized that the intervention would decrease patients’ depressive symptoms.

- How would you interpret the result if the hypothesis is supported? (1)
