Assignment 9 - Chapter 13: Analysis of Covariance (ANACOVA) Problem 5: A psychological Experiment was performed to determine whether in problem-solving dyads containing one male and one female, "influencing" behavior depended on the sex of the experimenter. The problem for each dyad was a strategy game called "Rope a Steer", which require 20 separate decisions about which way to proceed toward a defined goal on a game board. For each subject in the dyad, a verbal-influence activity score was derived as a function of the number of statements made by the subject to influence the dyad to move in a particular direction. The difference in verbal-influence activity scores within a dyad was denoted as the variable VIAD, which was then used as the dependent variable in an ANACOVA designed to control the effects of differing IQ scores of the male and female in each dyad. The relevant data are given in sheet "#5" in "HW9Data.xlsx". Y variable is VIAD. Two quantitative predictors IQM (X1) and IQF(X2). Categorical variable gender (represent indicators as ZF and Zm/one of the categories needs to be suppressed) a) State the regression model for testing the appropriateness of the ANACOVA model. Note: ANACOVA model only appropriate as long as there is no interaction between the quantitative X's and the categorical variable My = Bo + B1X1 + B2x2 + B3z b) Test the appropriateness of the ANACOVA model. Note: Full model is given as your answer to part A). Ho: B3 = 0 HA: B3 0 0 F-Statistic: p-value: Statistical Conclusion: Why? NonStatistical Conclusion: c) State the ANACOVA model appropriate for these data. Note: Appropriate model is the model in part A), without the interaction terms. Hy = d) Determine the unadjusted and adjusted mean VIAD scores for each group. Sample Mean Viad Unadjusted Adjusted Female (suppress) Male e) Test whether the adjusted mean scores differ significantly. Note: Appropriate model is given as your answer to part C). Ho: HA: F-Statistic: p-value: Statistical Conclusion: Why? NonStatistical Conclusion: f) Find a 9 Cl for the true difference in adjusted mean scores. Note: Which B represents the difference in adjust mean scores? You are being asked to find a Cl for that B. Note: Finding a Cl for a is discussed in Chapter 8, page 11.
