B1 [20 marks] (a) (6 marks) i) Explain why a Carnot heat engine is considered "ideal". ii) What is the efficiency of a Carot engine operating between a high temperature reservoir at 100C and a low temperature reservoir at 10C? iii) What is the work done in one hour by a Carnot engine operating between a high temperature reservoir at 100C and a low temperature reservoir at 10C? The heat flow from the high temperature reservoir is 400 J/s. (b) (7 marks) A 0.20 kg block of copper is heated in a laboratory oven to a temperature of 180C. It is added to an insulated container of ice and water which is at a temperature of 0C. The mass of ice is 0.10 kg and the mass of water is 0.90 kg. i) Calculate the heat required to melt all the ice in the container. ii) Calculate the heat released if the 0.20 kg block of copper is cooled from 180C to 0C. iii) Find the final temperature of the contents of the container. Neglect the heat capacity of the container. Assume no heat is lost to the surroundings
