Background

Inventory management is an essential type of database program that is used not only in warehousing, shipping, retail, and wholesale businesses, but can be for all sorts of other offices and businesses, military, education, and even small home$-$based businesses. Here, we'll explore the fundamentals of how they can work.

An important concept of that are SKUs or Stock$-$Keeping UnitsLinks to an external site.. These are unique numbers used by businesses to track inventory that they possess. These numbers should be unique.

For this graded Canvas coding project, we're going to create a program and stores and accesses information in a simple text file. And, to make things a little easier, we're going to store each field on a different row in the file. In general, we don't tend to store data that way, but for our purposes and to get you used to things, this will work just fine for this assignment. We'll start with some default information. And you'll add some additional information to the files. We won't worry about uniqueness, and in fact, we're going to check for when something isn't unique in our system. We also won't be deleting information now, and adding...or appending...information to our text file "database".

You will be provided with templates for the programs with some information already filled in for you, and areas defined with comments and instructions for what you should do to complete the code for the project.
