Background

You are working as a summer student intern at the KPU Procurement department. You attend a Supply

Chain Conference as the KPU intern with the intent to discuss with professionals in the field. Your

internship instructor asks you to find two industry experienced people to talk with, one in the product

service industry and one in the service industry.

Company $1-$ ABC Corp

$-$ They have $1$ main contract manufacturer supplier that works closely with ABC Corp to develop a

high quality and very innovative product for them. They are doing a good job, but ABC is

thinking about looking for a backup supplier.

$-$ Once production is complete, they then sell the product online to customers via ecommerce

website from their $3$PL warehouse distribution center out of california. ABC Corp arranges

shipment from their contract manufacturer to their $3$PL warehouse.

$-$ Team: supply chain manager that does purchasing, discussing and coordinating with warehouse,

forecasting and demand planning. Marketing manager that helps with advertising and

promotional planning and branding to generate sales.

$-$ Outsource customer service, quality testing, information technology, warehousing to $3$PL in

California

Company $2-$ XYZ Inc

$-$ They are a small, $$hole in the wall$$ taco restaurant serving inexpensive and cheap eats that are

gaining word of mouth PR for their great food

$-$ Often running out of food before the night is over $-$ they are popular!

$-$ The owner does all the purchasing of the ingredients required to prepare and serve their dishes

Assignment Requirements: Making any necessary assumptions based on your conversations with these

two professionals on how they operate, your role is to report back to your internship instructor with a

report that covers the below topics and applying them to both of the specific industries $,$ noting

differences and uniqueness and similarities between the two. The two businesses operate very

differently.

$1.$ Supply chain and Operations overview $($including internal and outsourced activities$)$

$2.$ Procurement

Your intern instructor has asked you to develop a well written report, that concisely demonstrates your

knowledge of the above topics in its application to the different businesses.

Your thoroughness and University writing are necessary. You are marked on

completeness$/$thoroughness$,$ relevancy of topics discussed and your knowledge of those concepts, and

critical analysis in addition to writing and format $($see separate rubric$).$ Your report can be succinct and

precise as long as it's critical and applied via critical analysis. Definitions alone do not grant high marks.

Use APA style and references when necessary.
