Based on the paragraph below please explain how Jean Bertrand Aristide (a former president of Haiti) displayed leadership.
I know a Haitian leader, his name is Jean Bertrand Aristide, and he is a former president of Haiti. Prior to being elected as president, he was a Catholic priest in a small parish located in the suburbs of Port-au-Prince, the main city. He was able to emerge as a leader because his sermons were sensitive to the peoples needs and misery. He was charismatic, well-spoken, intelligent, self-confident, and sociable. While internal violence was in full swing in the late 80s, he was able to challenge the then political regime, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, model the way, and encourage the hearts (Posner & Kouzes, 1996). During my time in Haiti, I have never had the opportunity to have a one-on-one interaction with President Aristide. However, his behavior speaks volumes about how he perceives leadership. When he addressed the Nation on special occasions, he would take the opportunity to deliver his speech in four (4) languages. After he was ousted from power in 2004 following considerable social unrest and was exiled to South Africa, he took the opportunity to earn his doctorate and returned to Haiti in March 2011. President Aristide believes that the more skills and knowledge a leader has, the better he will be at leading people. Yet, if the leader is unable to use all these skills and expertise to produce significant change, if the leader only changes his life for the better, but fails to help his followers and his community to develop as well, these competencies do not mean anything.
