Based on the scenario given below, answer the following questions. John and Mary work for a large financial firm, advising clients on the financial services the company sells. While Jon and Mary have different roles, they complement each other given John is responsible for sales and Mary is responsible for marketing and communications. While representing two different departments, their desks are opposite from each other within an open office environment. John has been with the firm for 15 years but likes to keep to himself, as he is quite introverted. Still a relatively new employee, Mary puts in many hours trying to build up her client base. She has done the training that Human Resources asked her to do, and she tries to follow the company rules and procedures. She is quite extroverted and social and seems to be getting along well with her colleagues. Their line manager, Eva, is pleased with Marys work, so far. The line manager has assigned John to be Marys buddy and to assist in helping Mary settle in. Much of their day is spent working on the computer, meeting with clients, and communicating with stakeholders at various levels. Mary has noticed that John is not as time-sensitive as she is; John arrives late on most days, but Mary doesnt know that John works late most nights because he prefers to work after others have gone home for the day. Mary has tried to schedule a check-in meeting with John a few times, but each time she does, John says, Dont worry. Well catch up when I get in tomorrow. By the time John arrives late for work, Mary has clients coming in to meet with her. This morning John and Mary had a meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. It is now 9:30, and John has just arrived and is taking off his jacket. Morning, John, Mary says, I was hoping we could catch up at 9 this morning, and we keep missing each other. I have a few questions. Are you still able to fit me in? John rolls his eyes. Honestly, the gigs not that complicated, he replies. I really dont have time to babysit you and your clients! Then he storms off to get a coffee. Having heard Johns statements, other members of the marketing and communications team become visibly upset. Looking on, Eva decides to call a meeting with both John and Mary to resolve the issues.
